Built in 1893, Arhontiko is an excellent example of 19th-century inland Cretan architecture. It played an important role throughout Arhanes' recent history. During the Cretan revolt against Turkish rule in 1897, it served as the barracks and headquarters of the Regiment of Select Cretans under Ioannis Dafotis' command. In the early 20th century, it housed Arhanes' elementary school for several years. Carefully restored with respect to its original architectural elements, Arhontiko gives new meaning to 'traditional. ' The Central Archaeological Council of Greece (CACG) has designated it a Protected Traditional Building. Arhontiko features four independent, 70-square-meter apartments on two levels, connected by an interior staircase. Fully equipped, each apartment can accommodate two to four people year-round. Each features a spacious living room with a fireplace, a master bedroom with a vintage brass bed, and two single sofa beds, offering contemporary comfort. Amenities include a WC/bathtub, air conditioning, internet access, a fully equipped kitchen, a refrigerator, a safety box, a flat-screen TV, a hairdryer, and a baby cot.
